Biography
Dr. Chang received both his bachelor's and medical degree from Brown University's
seven-year medical program. He continued his medical training in Internal Medicine at
Rhode Island Hospital. He then completed a three-year academic fellowship in
Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of California, Irvine.
Expertise and Interests
Dr. Chang is currently an associate professor in the departments of medicine and radiological
sciences and the director of UCI Medical Center's H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive
Disease Center (CDDC).
He also oversees the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program in the Chao Family Comprehensive
Cancer Center.
For the last 10 years, his clinical research has focused on
developing endoscopic modalities for cancer diagnosis, staging and therapy. He pioneered
EUS-guided FNA and has written over 100 publications and book chapters on its utility in
gastrointestinal and pulmonary malignancies.
His expertise includes Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Retrograde
Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), photodynamic and laser therapy, and endoscopic
treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Dr. Chang is also investigating the
use of gene therapy for pancreatic cancer.
